Faith & Works

By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, of whom it was said, “In Isaac your seed shall be called,” concluding that God was able to raise him up [Isaac], even from the dead, from which he also received him in a figurative sense.

What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith [alone] save him?

……faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar?

Do you see that FAITH was WORKING TOGETHER with his WORKS, and by works faith was made perfect [complete]?

And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God.

You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.

For as the body without the spirit [breath] is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”

Hebrews 11:17-19; James 2:14-26

“Abraham’s great act of faith stands like a pillar of light, illuminating the pathway of God’s servants in all succeeding ages.

Abraham did not seek to excuse himself from doing the will of God, [obedience].

There are many who fail to understand the relation of faith and works.

They say, “Only believe in Christ, and you are safe. You have nothing to do with keeping the law.” But genuine faith will be manifest in obedience.

Said Christ to the unbelieving Jews, “If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.” John 8:39.

And concerning the father of the faithful the Lord declares, “Abraham obeyed My voice, and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.” Genesis 26:5.”

And if we are Christ’s, then we are Abraham’s seed & heirs according to the Promise, Galatians 3:29. Therefore, obedience to God’s Word & His Commandments is expected of us, not by our might, nor our power, but by the Spirit of the Lord, working in us, and teaching us how to be obedient as we surrender all to Christ.

If we indeed are the children of Abraham, we would truly do the works of Abraham. Our profession of faith, in Christ Jesus, must be wrought together with works of obedience, for “as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”

In the life of the true Christian will be seen this active principle. Their faith in Christ, will be showcased by their obedience to His Word.

Genuine faith will be manifested in good works; for good works are the fruits of faith. As God works in the heart, and man surrenders his will to God, and cooperates with God, he works out in the life what God works in by the Holy Spirit, and there is harmony between the purpose of the heart and the practice of the life.

“If you love Me, keep [obey] My Commandments.” John 14:15

He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep [obey] His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps [obey] His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. 1 John 2:4-5
